Modern Monsters by Kelley York

Vic Howard never wanted to go to the party. He’s the Invisible Guy at school, a special kind of hell for quiet, nice guys. But because his best friend is as popular as Vic is ignored, he went…

And wished he hadn’t.

Because something happened to a girl that night. Something terrible, unimaginable, and Callie Wheeler’s life will never be the same. Plus, now Callie has told the police that Vic is responsible. Suddenly, Invisible Vic is painfully visible, on trial both literally, with the police, and figuratively, with the angry kids at school. As the whispers and violence escalate, he becomes determined to clear his name, even if it means an uneasy alliance with Callie's best friend, the beautiful but aloof Autumn Dixon.

But as Autumn and Vic slowly peel back the layers of what happened at the party, they realize that while the truth can set Vic free, it can also shatter everything he thought he knew about his life.

My Thoughts:
I was really wary about this book. It's about rape. The book starts out at a party and shortly after that we learn that a girl was raped. So I was expecting some graphic details and disturbing imagery and lots of drinking and drugs and cursing. But there wasn't. Kelley York handled this subject so incredibly well. We hear this story from the perspective of the boy who is accused of raping the girl, but he's innocent. So we see what happens to him as a result of being wrongly accused and how this storyline plays out with police and reporters and kids at school and friends. It's heartbreaking. And enlightening. And beautiful. And, mostly, it's hopeful. Yes, horrible things happen. Yes, there are terrible people in the world. And there are good people who make awful mistakes. But we can gather ourselves up again and keep moving, keep going, find happiness. Especially for being such a serious subject, this book was actually really uplifting that way.

I loved Vic's voice. He was such a sweet, kind, just all-around good guy who gets put through so much crap for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I just wanted to reach into that book, wrap my arms around him and protect him. He felt like he needed protecting. Especially with the whole mother storyline which, btw, I totally guessed from the beginning and she just made me hate the world. Her and the father. Seriously, every scene she was in, I was kind of annoyed by the way she treated everything. Made me mad. And sad.

Then there was Autumn. I liked Autumn as a character, as a loyal friend, as the fiesty girl that she was. Which was why I didn't fully understand the connection she made with Vic. I just didn't see that happening naturally. It made the story, for sure, but I just didn't think it would have actually happened in a real-life situation. That's all.

The end of this book broke my heart. I saw it coming and it was still tragically sad. I really did just want to jump in there and protect Vic. That poor guy. But this book was lovely. Tragic and realistic and hopeful. I loved it. Thank you, Kelley York for handling such a delicate subject so carefully and tastefully. I will definitely read more by this author.

Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard

Philadelphia 1876. The Dead are rising. A zombie delivers a letter to Eleanor Fitt. Whoever controls the Dead Army has her brother. She avoids her mother's choice of husband for the lab of Spirit Hunters, including the maddeningly stubborn yet handsome Daniel. The situation threatens her reputation, and the lives of everyone in the city.

My Thoughts:
It took me a while to get into this book. I read the first chapter then put it down for a while because I wasn't interested it. I mean zombies? Really?

But then I picked it up again and read the whole thing in two days. There was just so much to love here!

First of all, I loved Eleanor. I loved that she was strong and brave and smart but Dennard never said any of that. Eleanor was just like that. As a reader we were shown Eleanor's character without being told Eleanor's character. Which was perfect. I loved the writing style, the quality (after the first chapter) of writing and the way characters were written. Loved it. I'm a new fan of Susan Dennard.

All the other characters were also well-developed and well-rounded. And they spoke like real people... in the 1800s. It was like a dark, steampunk Jane Austin novel. Which was really fun. Another thing that I loved was that there was a nice romance element but it didn't overwhelm the story. Nor was it some kind of super-passionate, love-trumps-anything-else-going-on type of affair. It was naturally-evolving and moved at a normal pace. Mostly. But it was still yummy. Although entirely clean.

One thing that bugged was that the huge reveal at the end wasn't surprising at all. It was one of those things you guess after the first chapter but hope it incorrect because it's just so obvious. Oh, well.

Anyway, it was fun. It was clean. It was well-written and really entertaining. Go read it.

Hidden Huntress by Danielle L. Jensen (The Malediction Trilogy #2)

Book: #2 The Malediction Trilogy
Publication Date: June 2, 2015
Publisher: Angry Robot
Pages: 464

Sometimes, one must accomplish the impossible.

Beneath the mountain, the king’s reign of tyranny is absolute; the one troll with the capacity to challenge him is imprisoned for treason. Cécile has escaped the darkness of Trollus, but she learns all too quickly that she is not beyond the reach of the king’s power. Or his manipulation.

Recovered from her injuries, she now lives with her mother in Trianon and graces the opera stage every night. But by day she searches for the witch who has eluded the trolls for five hundred years. Whether she succeeds or fails, the costs to those she cares about will be high.

To find Anushka, she must delve into magic that is both dark and deadly. But the witch is a clever creature. And Cécile might not just be the hunter. She might also be the hunted…

My Thoughts:
I fell in love with Danielle L. Jensen since I read her first book Stolen Songbird when it first came out!  I've had to wait, and wait for book two now I have to wait for book three! ARRRGH!

I love that this book/series isn't a little book, it has actual story and lines, and descriptions, and not some quick fast-paced book that is over in 200 pages! There is just so much to love about this book as much as the second.

I know some people were annoyed that a long part of the book the two main love interests remained separated, but I was totally okay with that. I mean it left you wanting to read more and more to know what will happen and how they are ever going to be reunited. *sigh* it's a beautiful thing. Generally once characters get together I loose interest in the over story. Sad but true...

Alright so in Hidden Huntress it follows Cecile who is a rising star on the opera stage, her mother is the driving force behind her success. However, Cecile can't keep out of her head or heart her husband whom she had to leave behind.

Under the mountain in the troll kingdom, Tristan is barely keeping it together. After is big betrayal to his father, Tristan has been in prison for some time. When he is released he is only just barely. The game continuing between Tristan, his father and others was really enjoyable to read about.

The alternating points of view in this book, was not annoying at all to me like it usually does. I really enjoyed what was going on with Cecile outside the troll kingdom and what was going on inside with Tristan. I felt the author did a FANTASTIC job of keeping points of view separate and very distinct.

The ending was amazing. I enjoyed the twist and turns and the action at the end. I wasn't too surprised with the "revelation" but it was still fun to read. The mystery, adventure of it all was just right for book two in this series. I can't wait for book three and look forward to more books by this author.

Sexual Content: moderate (kissing, knowledge that 2 characters had sex)
Language: mild
Violence: moderate (murder, battle, some torture-nothing too graphicO)
Drugs/Alcohol: mild (social drinking, a character gets drunk)

*overall I would recommend this series to anyone!

Dead is the New Black by Marlene Perez

Welcome to Nightshade, California—a small town full of secrets. It’s home to the pyschic Giordano sisters, who have a way of getting mixed up in mysteries. During their investigations, they run across everything from pom-pom-shaking vampires to shape-shifting boyfriends to a clue-spewing jukebox. With their psychic powers and some sisterly support, they can crack any case!

Teenage girls are being mysteriously attacked all over town, including at Nightshade High School, where Daisy Giordano is a junior. When Daisy discovers that a vampire may be the culprit, she can’t help but suspect head cheerleader Samantha Devereaux, who returned from summer break with a new “look.” Samantha appears a little . . . well, dead, and all the most popular kids at school are copying her style.

Is looking dead just another fashion trend for Samantha, or is there something more sinister going on? To find out, Daisy joins the cheerleading squad.

My Thoughts:
This was cute! I was feeling a bit lackluster about reading anything so I went to the library, found the smallest book I could on the YA shelves and started reading. I'm so glad it was this one!

Things I loved: The voice. I was instantly hooked by the sarcastic humor of Daisy's voice. I loved the way she thought and how she approached things. She wasn't whiney, she didn't monologue too much (or ever, that I can remember) and I just liked her. She was likable. And cute. And funny.

The humor. The entire book felt like a satire of other YA paranormal contemporary romance books. It was completely kitschy. Which I loved. And nothing in this book took itself too seriously. I love that, when something basically makes fun of itself.

The Romance. No love triangle (woot!). I feel like this shouldn't have to be mentioned but I DO mention it because it's a big deal in YA literature to NOT have a love triangle in a book. I wish it wasn't so. But it is. So, once again, there was no love triangle. Just one cute love interest and a tasty amount of cute little kiss scenes spread throughout the book. I also loved that the love story wasn't an all-encompassing passionate affair where the characters couldn't control themselves. It was a friendship that evolved into something sweeter. It was just cute.

So I liked this book. But, you know, it was one of those outcast-loner-girl-turns-popular-cheerleader books. Plus it was a book about a town made up of paranormal creatures that somehow no one knows about even though they're everywhere and these people have lived there their whole lives. Everything was cliche. Kitsch. I'd read it before somewhere else and there wasn't really anything new to set this apart. And hints were SHOUTED at me while reading. The mystery element was a little different, I guess, in the sense that Daisy, herself, kept guessing who the killer was. Which is exactly what I do as a reader. So it was kind of fun to see that thought process. It also kept me guessing until the end, which is unusual. But mostly I just got annoyed at how quickly Daisy jumped to conclusions.

This was a quick, cute, entertaining read. Pre-teens and younger teens would probably like it a lot more than I did just because of all the kitschy-ness. Check it out.

Dissonance by Erica O'Rourke

Published: July 22, 2014
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Pages: 496

Some decisions have unimaginable consequences.

Every time someone makes a choice, a new parallel world is spun off the existing one. Eating breakfast or skipping it, sneaking out instead of staying in bed—every decision creates an alternate universe in which an Echo self takes the road not travelled. As a Walker who can navigate between these realities, Del is training to help keep the dimensions in harmony.

When Del secretly starts to investigate other dissonant worlds, she get tangled up with an Echo of her longtime crush. She knows she shouldn't keep seeing him. But as Del persists, she uncovers a truth that the Council of Walkers is trying to hide—a secret that threatens the entire multiverse.
My Thoughts:
I have to say I didn't really know what I was getting into when I picked up this book, I thought to cover was super pretty and a friend of mine really liked it. Happen to find it on Bookoutlet for super cheap so I bought it, and it sat on my shelf for a few months before I finally got to picking it up! I am so glad I did and I'm looking forward to book 2!

First off I really enjoyed the concept of this book a genetic ability to manipulate matter and visit alternate worlds! How cool is that! I thought this was well written, well thought-out, the world building was perfect and easy to understand, the romance was not terrible and it's a contemporary with some sci-fi power to it. COOL!

Delancy is our main character and she helps monitor and fix anomalies that affect our world, or the "key world" in these alternate worlds. Delancy finds a musical frequency that connect worlds and is able to travel to them. Through threads she (and others like her called "walkers") and others are able to manipulate the threads to fix problems. However, you must be extremely careful otherwise you could "cleave" a world which is what happens to Delancy when she wasn't supposed to do anything in this alternate world. Which really brings about more problems then one might think.

I loved how in each alternate world the characters are all different due to A CHOICE that creates more and more alternate worlds. Because of a choice is spawns what life would have been like if a character had chosen differently. I really enjoyed that.

The romance wasn't amazing but wasn't terrible. That's all I'm going to say about it. No exciting "feels" but wasn't annoying either.

My favorite character however was Delancy's Grandpa, I loved their easy relationship, his quirk, and his story. I just loved everything about him that added that little extra humor in the story.

I also enjoyed the relationship between Delancy and her sister because I could relate on SO MANY LEVELS with this. I was great to watch their relationship change and develop throughout the book.

Overall I would recommend this book to those looking for a unique and fun book that captures your mind and imagination.

Deadly Little Sins (Prep School Confidential #3) by Kara Taylor

It’s August and Anne is back in New York City for the summer, but she can’t escape the memories of the terrible things that happened at the Wheatley School last spring— and the possibility of being expelled looming over her. When an unexpected— and suspicious— turn of events gets Anne sent back to Wheatley, she’s determined to figure out what happened to her favorite teacher and only adult ally at the school: Ms. Cross.

After a shocking, gruesome murder with connections to the Wheatley School occurs, Anne is convinced there’s more to Ms. Cross’s sudden disappearance, and that her favorite teacher is in danger. But after an ugly breakup with Brent and a new, inexplicable distance between her and Anthony, Anne isn’t sure who she can trust. And even worse, someone at Wheatley knows the truth about what happened to Ms. Cross— someone who will stop at nothing to keep Anne from learning the truth in this engrossing, unputdownable read.

My Thoughts:
Meh. if you've read the first two books in the series then I always think it's nice to continue on but otherwise there's no real reason to read this book.

The first two books were so cute. Not only was there some kind of who-done-it mystery and some major sleuthing, but there was a lot going on with friends and family and school. Anne and her group followed multiple storylines and it was interesting. This book was basically only about the mystery. I got a little bored of just reading about new clues and developing leads, without any personal stories about Anne and her friends. It was almost like Anne just wanted to not have friends anymore, the way she ignored and bailed on everyone. In fact, I don't understand why these kids were her friends at all; She wasn't all that nice to anyone, used them to help her access information and lied to everyone. A couple of times a person would randomly choose to give her some kind of critical information or a tip of some sort without her giving any compensation, or even asking. It didn't make sense.

The way things played out with Anthony was abrupt. And annoying. I felt like he deserved better than that. Shoot, I wanted better than that. The Brent storyline boring, sporadic, expected and lame. The climactic scene and ending was the same way. I just wasn't invested in this story like I was the first two; There wasn't enough connection with Anne or any of the other characters.

And then there was the matter of So Many Characters being introduced then forgotten about. I was getting really confused trying to keep all the names straight. And Anne started using a whole lot of really cliched, cheesy sleuthing terminology. I mean, it was everywhere. Once in a while in a silly little gum shoe mystery book, the corny PI terms could be cute. But it was way overplayed.

The way this ended felt like it was leading up to another series, which could be fun. If the next books are more like the first two books and not this third one. I was disappointed.

Vendetta by Catherine Doyle

Publication Date: February 24, 2015
Publisher: Chicken House
Pages: 352

Blood Will Spill, Hearts Will Break: With a fierce rivalry raging between two warring families, falling in love is the deadliest thing Sophie could do. An epic debut set outside modern-day Chicago.

For Sophie, it feels like another slow, hot summer in Cedar Hill, waitressing at her family’s diner and hanging out with her best friend Millie. But then someone moves into the long-abandoned mansion up the block--a family of five Italian brothers, each one hotter than the last. Unable to resist caramel-eyed Nicoli, Sophie finds herself falling for him -- and willfully ignoring the warning signs. Why are Nic's knuckles cut and bruised? Why does he carry an engraved switchblade? And why does his arrogant and infuriating older brother, Luca, refuse to let her see him? As the boys' dark secrets begin to come to light, Sophie is confronted with stinging truths about her own family, too. Suddenly, she's torn between two warring dynasties: the one she’s related to and the one she's now in love with. She'll have to choose between loyalty and passione. When she does, blood will spill, hearts will break. Because in this twisted underworld, dishonor can be the difference between life and death.
My Thoughts:
I have been waiting to get my hands on this book! Once I heard what it was about, I wanted it. It just sounded so good and so interesting! And it was just that awesome! I am so excited to see how Catherine Doyle plays this series out. I can't wait for book two! UGH these series!

I really liked this book because I felt it was a gritty, tense, thriller of a family of crime. The cast of characters is so dynamic and diverse it was incredible. I enjoyed the drama of this dark tale of grudges, revenge, and obsession. I enjoyed the lines that were crossed between good and bad, what's right and what's wrong and how far one will go to stay true to your family and their beliefs.

The main character Sophie was ok, she wasn't amazing to me but not annoying either. I found myself rolling my eyes at her a few times but hey she's not terrible.

I really enjoyed the five brothers of this family that moves in and their wide range of differences in personality and character. I felt the author did a GREAT job with keeping them completely separate during the whole book.

One thing I hated and ALMOST put the book down was the "insta-love" I am finding that I just can't stand that in a book, where is the mystery and the enjoyment of the tenseness between two characters? sheesh! well like I said, I ALMOST put it down but however there was one character that really intrigued me and I even tweeted to the author while reading it that I wanted more of him! She promised that there would be more and I was not disappointed. I cannot wait to see what the author does with him and Sophie. Yes, this does elude that there is a possible love triangle but it was super intriguing and not at all annoying! The thing is, no character knows of it yet except the reader and you don't suspect anything till way later in the book which was fabulous!

I completely loved this book and the shock factor was so shocking I was floored! I totally did NOT see THAT coming! it was insane! wow! still blown over it.

Overall if you're looking for a fun, intense mysterious contemporary I would so recommend this book! I loved it!

The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle #1) by Maggie Stiefvater

“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.

His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

My Thoughts:
A friend said this book was slow-burn. And she was right. I wasn't immediately drawn to this story. Nothing pulled me in. I didn't feel the need to obsessively read until it was finished. Even now that I've finished it I just kind of have this calm feeling toward it.

I was interested in Blue and her family. Blue lives with a bunch of psychic women who have all told her that if she kisses her true love he will die. So Blue separates herself from everyone and resolves to not kiss anyone. It's kind of a lonely lifestyle but she plays the part of the quirky misunderstood loner pretty well, if not a little cliched. Then she sees the spirit of her true love and meets him in real life and becomes involved in his life and the life of his friends. I liked her well enough. I understood her. She feels drawn to these boys even though she believes she will be their downfall. I just--I don't know. It's pretty clear to me that if I'd found out who the boy was that I would kill with a kiss, I would avoid him. At all costs. Maybe go find a few random boys that have no chance of being my true love to release some not-kissing-anyone-for-sixteen-years frustration. But that's just me.

Adam made perfect sense to me. I really liked him. I felt bad for him but proud of his independence and intelligence. I want him to have a happy ending but I don't think that's going to happen for him. He will be the tragedy of this series, I'm betting, because he's lovable but there's nowhere for his character to go for a happy ending. He has tragedy written all over him. It's so sad.

Ronan was our resident bad boy/crazy-violent troubled kid. But he was layered. There was depth. In fact, all the characters had depth. I loved that. No one was flat or one-sided. Ronan, though, could have been completely one way but he went in all different directions that all stayed true to his character. I guess I'm a sucker for a bad boy but I really liked him. I want him to figure himself out and be happier.

Even Noah made sense (although I'll be completely honest and say that I didn't see Noah's storyline playing out the way it did, even with that HUGE hint in the beginning. Hidden in plain sight. Well done, Stiefvater). I loved the way he was portrayed: Always in the shadows, there one moment, gone the next. And the fact that everyone liked him was just so nice.

I didn't understand Gansey at all until he told his back-story. Which was a long ways into the book. I would have been much more interested in Gansey had his story been told earlier. As it was, I didn't understand his obsession with ley lines or supernatural stuff and why he had to find the answers to everything until his story came out. I guess what the author was trying to do was let us get to know Gansey as Blue did? We found out things about him almost the way that Blue did. Almost. There was a lot of switching perspectives in this book so we really are in different characters heads throughout the whole thing. Normally I don't mind the switching perspectives. I didn't mind it in this book until we got to the end and the perspectives jumped a few times within the same chapter. Then I got confused.

Another problem I had with all of this was that all these people were obsessed with ley lines. I didn't even know what these things were until this book. Never heard of them. And now all of these people are drawn to this particular area and are ready to do terrible things to find the ley lines and whatever else? How do these people know about them? The psychic ladies, I understand, but they weren't really interested in the ley lines other than corpse road. I don't know. This part of the plot just didn't sit well with me.

So, if I had to summarize my thoughts on this book, I guess I liked the way Stiefvater wrote characters. They were all individuals who did things in line with their individual characters. They made sense and they were layered. I wasn't completely taken with the writing style, the confusing changing of perspectives and the way the story bloomed slowly, like a flower in real-time. It was lovely, yes. And I'm still thinking about the book and all that happened. But it took me longer than it should have to read this whole book. I wasn't drawn-in. I didn't feel compelled to read it. But it was a pleasant experience and I'll probably read the next one.

Unspoken (The Lynburn Legacy #1) by Sarah Rees Brennan

Kami Glass loves someone she’s never met . . . a boy she’s talked to in her head ever since she was born. She wasn’t silent about her imaginary friend during her childhood, and is thus a bit of an outsider in her sleepy English town of Sorry-in-the-Vale. Still, Kami hasn’t suffered too much from not fitting in. She has a best friend, runs the school newspaper, and is only occasionally caught talking to herself. Her life is in order, just the way she likes it, despite the voice in her head.

But all that changes when the Lynburns return.

The Lynburn family has owned the spectacular and sinister manor that overlooks Sorry-in-the-Vale for centuries. The mysterious twin sisters who abandoned their ancestral home a generation ago are back, along with their teenage sons, Jared and Ash, one of whom is eerily familiar to Kami. Kami is not one to shy away from the unknown—in fact, she’s determined to find answers for all the questions Sorry-in-the-Vale is suddenly posing. Who is responsible for the bloody deeds in the depths of the woods? What is her own mother hiding? And now that her imaginary friend has become a real boy, does she still love him? Does she hate him? Can she trust him?

My Thoughts:
I'm gonna be completely honest with you and say that I have already read book 2. I know, I know, I read the second book before I wrote the review for the first book and now I'm going to attempt to write a review for the first book without involving the second. But I just HAD to keep reading!! Confused yet?

Aaaaaahhhhh, this book. I just--How do I adequately express my love for this book? Let me count the ways:

1. Wit. And humor and all things funny. Seriously, so funny. Every time I read a book that I think is funny I'll talk to someone about and be all, "Hey that was funny," and they'll be all, "What are you talking about? That book was about war," and I'll be all, "But the characters were hilarious and said some mood-lifting funny things," and then they'll raise their eyebrows and look slowly away. *Ahem* So, in short, I think most things are funny. And when a book is intentionally funny and I get it and I like it and it actually makes me laugh, I love it automatically. This was so my style. Kami is adorably quirky and cute. She says somewhat bizarre stuff but coming from her it's so natural and perfect. Angela may be my favorite character. She hates people. And I love her for it. I remember saying that exact line all throughout high school. Everything she says is hilarious in that doom and morbidity kind of way.

2. Strong Characters. Kami, while being funny, was strong and capable. She kind of used her reputation as an odd little daydreamer to find information and take on the toughest people around. She was just so good and kind and had this wonderful self-assurance, which probably comes from someone constantly reassuring her in her mind. I kind of loved that everyone was strong. The only characters that didn't feel especially strong but that fit their characters were Jared and Ash. They both felt a bit needy and insecure. But it worked. They were believable and completely understandable. And on top of that, all the characters sounded like themselves, not carbon-copy mimics of each other. I could tell who was talking by what they said. Which is always a good thing. A really good thing.

3. Plot Development. I can't tell you how much I loved the way this story played out!!! I mean, I really can't or I'd spoil it all for you. Everything fell together in a believable yet unexpected way. It actually felt like Brennan planned everything out starting at the climax of the book and worked backward, if that makes sense. In other words, nothing felt like it just accidentally happened or was put in there to build suspense or create drama. That was the way it was. And it was perfect.

4. The Setting. Sorry-in-the-Vale is a sleepy little English countryside town. Everyone knew each other and there were crazy secrets hidden in odd places and the whole time I was reading I was doing so in my fake English-American accent in my head. Except for the boys who had American accents (although their dialog sounded suspiciously British). It was just fun to read like that.

5. Pacing. This book started well, developed well and ended well. I was never bored. I never felt like any portion of this story was dragging. I wanted to keep reading and reading and reading! Seriously, I could not put this book down! So good! The story pulled me in from the beginning, moving fast when necessary, slowing down when the story called for it. It all felt so right.

6. The Boys. Ok, so this is a love triangle thing. It is. I know. But this one was a lot of fun, I promise! And Kami's choices make sense. So do Ash and Jared. And, man are these boys attractive! (The way I imagine them, anyway) The link between Kami and Jared is so interesting and nicely done. I love the way they are together and I love the way they progress together. Ash makes a lot of sense, too, with his always-trying-to-be-perfect persona going on. So... Yum.

7. This book was clean. Squeaky, deliciously, beautifully clean. I think there may have been one or two curse words in this entire book. And they were pretty tame ones.

So, in short: Read this book! It's adorable and fun and mildly creepy and intense and light and just oh so perfect. I love it.

But the leader of the rebels claims they used to be in love—even though Ella’s never met him before in her life. Which can only mean one thing…

Someone’s altered her memory.

Ella’s gift is enough to overthrow a corrupt government or crush a growing rebel group. She is the key to stopping a war she didn’t even know was happening. But if someone else has been inside Ella’s head, she cannot trust her own memories, thoughts, or feelings.

So who can she trust?

My Thoughts
This was yet another book I read without reading the synopsis and...oh man...this book, was bloody brilliant! Period, end of story, Brilliant.

Where do I begin, this story is so unique and should have everybody reading it! It's an adventure with a very huge warning of big government and loss of freedom. It's a vivid dystopian

If you're a fan of Beth Revis's trilogy Across the Universe  which is set in space about a spaceship named Godspeed. Well this is the story of what is going on in the future years after Godspeed left earth. I remember the ship bringing mentioned 1 or 2 times in the book which I thought was just so great!

Ella lives with her dying mother, her father died in a terrorist attack which left her devastated and alone, she has only one friend who is currently in the military. What I like about her is, she is so human, the grief she feels for a loved one, she has insecurities, her heart and mind are troubled, she seeks to find the truth. She was a great complex character and I was able to connect with her as a reader. I loved her.

Ella has the ability and technology to enter into peoples minds as they relive memories. When the government seeks her help in going into someone memories to seek out a terrorist, she is met with obstacles. The obstacles and a mysterious Jack who enters her life and warns her about friends and family-aren't what they appear to be, Ella seeks to find out the truth about her and her life.

Jack was just soooo CUTE! I loved him! He was sweet, and good, and a great male character. Just loved him. It's because of him and that helps set in motion everything that happens in the story.
What is so great about Beth Revis's writing for this story was the fact that Jack was less in the book then you'd think he would need to be. But how he has such a huge impact on the overall story, at first I kept thinking, "what about this Jack fellow?" "what does he have to do with all this?" Revis used him in a cool way to have him barely there-at first-and then he REALLY is in the story. I just thought it was brilliant!

I would recommend this book to anyone because it was adventurous, thought-provoking, clean and just fun.

Endgame
By: James Frey
Publication Date: October 7, 2014

Twelve thousand years ago, they came. They descended from the sky amid smoke and fire, and created humanity and gave us rules to live by. They needed gold and they built our earliest civilizations to mine it for them. When they had what they needed, they left. But before they left, they told us someday they would come back, and when they did, a game would be played. A game that would determine our future.

This is Endgame.

For ten thousand years the lines have existed in secret. The 12 original lines of humanity. Each had to have a Player prepared at all times. They have trained generation after generation after generation. In weapons, languages, history, tactics, disguise assassination. Together the players are everything: strong, kind, ruthless, loyal, smart, stupid, ugly, lustful, mean, fickle, beautiful, calculating, lazy, exuberant, weak. They are good and evil. Like you. Like all.

This is Endgame.

When the game starts, the players will have to find three keys. The keys are somewhere on earth. The only rule of their Endgame is that there are no rules. Whoever finds the keys first wins the game. Endgame: The Calling is about the hunt for the first key. And just as it tells the story of the hunt for a hidden key, written into the book is a puzzle. It invites readers to play their own Endgame and to try to solve the puzzle. Whoever does will open a case filled with gold. Alongside the puzzle will be a revolutionary mobile game built by Google’s Niantic Labs that will allow you to play a real-world version of Endgame where you can join one of the lines and do battle with people around you.
Will exuberance beat strength? Stupidity top kindness? Laziness thwart beauty? Will the winner be good or evil? There is only one way to find out.

Play.
Survive.
Solve.
People of Earth.
Endgame has begun
