Silver in the Blood by Jessica Day George

Publication Date: July 7, 2015
Publisher: Bloomsbury USA Childrens
Pages: 358

Society girls from New York City circa 1890, Dacia and Lou never desired to know more about their lineage, instead preferring to gossip about the mysterious Romanian family that they barely knew. But upon turning seventeen, the girls must return to their homeland to meet their relatives, find proper husbands, and—most terrifyingly—learn the deep family secrets of The Claw, The Wing, and The Smoke. The Florescus, after all, are shape-shifters, and it is time for Dacia and Lou to fulfill the prophecy that demands their acceptance of this fate . . . or fight against this cruel inheritance with all their might.

With a gorgeous Romanian setting, stunning Parisian gowns, and dark brooding young men, readers will be swept up by this epic adventure of two girls in a battle for their lives.

*A HUGE thank you to Netgalley and Bloomsbury for this ARC, which I got in exchange for an honest review.*

My Thoughts:
I have always enjoyed a good story, especially from author Jessica Day George. She is a great teller of tales, and even does retellings! She's just great!

However with this book, I'm  not going to lie it started off a little slow. FOR ME. I can't really pin point what it was that made it slow for me but I had to read a bit for me to really get interested. BUT, even though the beginning was a bit slow there were plenty of things that still makes this book good. There was plenty of mystery and intrigue that makes you keep going.

The chapter alternate with letter and telegrams to each of the main characters Dacia and Lou who are completely devoted to one another which was cute. It was unique to keep the progression of the story as well as show the distinct personalities of the two characters.

George (author) did a great job of keeping their personalities distinct throughout the whole book which is important especially when you are progressing their characters and the story at the same time.

The romance didn't overwhelm the story but it was definitely there which would keep anyone interested if that is what they were looking for.

Overall the story and suspense will kill you since it doesn't really pickup till the end, however the story telling was fantastic and the rich history of Romanian culture was very interesting.

If you're looking for a good rich story this is it, just realize it can be a bit slow at first but with plenty of drops to hint and keep one going.
