Book Review: Chosen By: Paulina Ulrich

Book Description:
Nothing can stand in the way of outspoken, rule-breaker-extraordinaire, Kaddy Richston…except destiny. Born with wildly colored hair and piercing gray eyes Kaddy knew she was different, but she set her sights on her ambitious dreams of being in a rock band and leaving her small town behind along with the painful memories of her past.

But destiny has other plans for her.

When the calm, cool, and always collected Cole Huntington enters her life he takes a strange interest in her, his striking blue eyes never wandering far from her every move. Despite her efforts to push him away, he plans on unraveling every single one of Kaddy’s dark secrets even though he has some of his own.

Despising each other from the start, Kaddy is determined to undermine whatever intentions he has until she learns of a destiny she never asked for. The fate of the world lies in her hands as she learns how different she really is. The only person she can turn to for answers is the last person she’d want help from: Cole Huntington who seems to dislike her rule-breaking as much as she dislikes his rule-following.

Sometimes destiny sucks.
My Thoughts:
I received this book from the author for a review. I originally gave this book 4 stars but now that I've had time to rethink and sit back and look at the book I think it's more of a 3 star book. Don't get me wrong this was a fun book! For those who liked The Violet Eden books by Jessica Shirvington will like this book too. Girls with a destiny, Angels, strong female characters, romance, action, and all that will like this book. So why only 3 stars? Well lets move on then shall we?

Kaddy is the main character with unnaturally RED, and I mean RED hair who is in a band, lives with her best friend, has a sad childhood story, and who plays the drums. Everything is finally looking right for Kaddy after what she's been through till she meets Cole who comes in a throws everything upside down for her. Because of Cole she finds that the weight of mankind is on her shoulders and that she is possibly this "Chosen" person to save the world!

Cole did not mean to come across Kaddy and when he does he is bothered and intrigued by her because she is not what she is supposed to be and he is very confused by her. Because of him he was able to be there for Kaddy in ways that no one else could and when Kaddy's world goes upside down it's Cole that can help her and tries.

I enjoyed the aspect of how Kaddy and Cole hate each other but eventually come to terms with each other and eventually there is a blossoming romance. I liked how he is tough but gentle and how both Kaddy and Cole and get under each other's skin.

What I did not like was the language. I felt it was a little more than it needed to be and I felt the whole band thing didn't really fit. I understand why it's there but it felt off somehow. Believe me I get it, I get why it's there and what it means to the characters but it just didn't seem to fit! I don't know how else to explain it!

Overall if you are looking for a fantasy book that is quick and fun then this is it!

Language: heavy
Sexual Content: moderate (PG-13 just some innuendos and steamy scenes)
Drugs/Alcohol: mild
Violence: moderate (PG some talk of child abuse, and angels fighting demons)
