Book Review: Altered By Jennifer Rush

Book Description:
When you can’t trust yourself, who can you believe?

Everything about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas, Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them.

Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.

Now on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away.

My Thoughts:
I was sucked in when I read this book. Totally and completely. It's just one of those books that is highly addicting, with action that engrosses you until you become quite satisfied and maybe even a little exhausted. The plot is clever and unpredictable, many times while reading I was at the edge of my seat, biting my nails with anticipation for the next page with these characters.

I enjoyed each individual character. I would think it would be hard to write about several characters and keep their personalities all separate and while writing, I think I would constantly get them confused and then chuck the laptop across the room in frustration because I kept getting their voices/personalities mixed up. haha ok anyway, moving on...

Anna as the main female character was a nice change from the ULTRA SUPER WOMAN, she is strong but at the same time a simple girl who gets scared and can't hold a gun and has to be recused and I liked that! She was wonderful to follow along with her as she tried to work through this crazy plot the author has put her through.

The boys that were altered were awesome in their own respect to this story. Each boy with their own unique talents and abilities (not XMEN abilities) and it was so cool to be a part of their lives as you read through their struggles and lives.

What was crazy were the complete and utter twists and turns that I did NOT see coming, I mean I didn't see ANYTHING coming...okay I had a gut feeling about ONE twist but still was surprising cause it was still just a hunch.

I can't wait for the next book it was awesome! And leaves you completely wanting more!

Overall: I would recommend it to those who like sci-fi, action, mystery, with a hint of romance book.

Language: Heavy (one character used the F word a lot)
Sexual Content: mild
Violence: moderate (PG-13 killings with guns, not graphic)
Drugs/Alcohol: mild
