Book Review: Clockwork Princess By: Cassandra Clare

More like 3.5 Stars

Book Description:
Tessa Gray should be happy - aren't all brides happy?
Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute.
A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa's heart, will do anything to save her.
My Thoughts:
OK, I'm done, WHEW! finished this series. FINALLY and I am so happy it's not going to be this forever long, drawn out series like Clare is doing with the Immortal Instruments.
Ok I enjoyed the book, I really did, I love this world and idea that she created. However, now with the movie (which I'm sure I will still go see) I think overall, I'm just over it all. You know?

Back to the actual review of the book...

What kept me from completely enjoying the book was how, I felt, the action was suffocated by romance. I loved the first book, where everything blossomed. Then the 2nd book which was completely disappointing because of the whole love triangle now this one? The plot that I actually care about gets ignored so an author can indulge in as much as possible, when it's unnecessary. Yeah, the annoying love triangle.

I think I am so sick of love triangles. They have been WAAAAYYYY over done, I like them just the amount that people are using them to write is getting exhausted. And this is NO exception. Tessa bugged me because I wanted her to LET. ONE. GO! move on woman! But she couldn't and neither could the characters! UGH, GAG!

I did however enjoy the bond between Jem and Will. I liked this brotherhood bond that they had and were willing to do anything for each other, it was endearing.

I was a team Jem personally. Why does the guy with the most issues always get the girl? They are these teenage, hormonal guys who mess everything up because of whatever reason, and these authors make the girl all swoony over them. Sometimes I think they are making the "I-want-to-save-you-change-you" romances that are few and far between in real life!

I did enjoy the progression of Will but he still bothered me because he couldn't just get over it all and move on!

I did like the ending how Clare tried to make everyone happy and I'm sorry but I liked it. It was a surprise to me how it ended and I liked that. But at the same time I can see why it bothered other readers.

Overall if you like this kind the first 2, might as well finish. If you liked the city of bones series, you'll like this too.

  2. I read the first three MI books, but like you, I was over them, before I even finished the series, and I for sure am not picking up the pre-quels. I am happy to note that I do not have a LOVE triangle in my own novel. Thank goodness. They are SOOOOO OLD!
