My Thoughts:
I had a lot of fun with this book. I really enjoyed this adventure! It's like reading a sci-fi version of The Walking Dead (for any of you fans out there) but instead of Zombies you've got Cyborgs. Half human, half machine.
Ok I liked the main character Eve. She is half human, half machine. Who comes across this group of humans at the age of 13 with no memory except her name, Eve. She was the beginning of the evolution to the Bane (who are the bad zombies/machines). Her character is cold, unfeeling and strong. I liked her because she is a strong female character with a lot of guts. However this changes when she starts to develop feelings or emotions that were blocked when she was experimented on. To watch her grow in character as she discovers emotion was really fun to read and interesting as you think, "What would it be like to have your emotions shut off for 18 years and then have them come back?" It's fun to think about!
I thought the author did a really great job of keeping the love triangle hard to figure out. For me it was hard to decide which one I liked, which one the author wanted me to like, and which one Eve would end up with! It wasn't too overwhelmingly ridiculous and sappy but it was great reading the characters while Eve is struggling with herself and all that is going on around her plus all of them trying to survive.
I liked the Bible references such as Eve (the beginning of it all), Eden (the place where the colony of people are), Gabriel (the leader of the colony).
I loved this storyline and the survivors and their stories. I loved all the discoveries we make as the story goes along, the mystery behind Eve and her memory loss plus every West brings and how he is apart of it all. His arrival in the story is what really gets this story moving and all his secrets. There is also the discovery of the Bane as well and how they evolved and continue to evolve.
My ONLY beef with this story is the ending. This of course is going to be a series but I didn't like how it just...ended... As soon as things got good and happy; except one part (which I will leave as a surprise to those who are going to read it); it just ended. The ending seemed too rushed and yes towards the end of the book I felt like things got a little choppy and wasn't a smooth ending nor did it really leave you hanging although it leaves you with one question and that is the "major cliff hanger".
But other than that it was a good, clean, action packed book. I would recommend it.
